Road and Safety Information

DRIVING

Always drive on the left hand side of the road.

SEAT BELTS

It is compulsory to wear seat belts at all times.

SPEED LIMITS

  • Urban Areas (residential and town) 60 km/h
  • Rural Areas 100 km/h
  • Highways 120 km/h
  • The recommended speed limit for travelling on gravel roads is 60 km/h

PROCEDURE AT A FOUR WAY STOP

When approaching a four stop, always take note of the following:

  • If you are the only vehicle at the stop street, stop, look both sides, then proceed.
  • If there is another vehicle already at the stop street, it has the right of way.
  • If you stop at the same time as another vehicle, common courtesy applies and either vehicle may proceed first.
  • Always ensure that your vehicle comes to a complete stop before you proceed.

APPROACHING A TRAFFIC CIRCLE

Always yield at a traffic circle.

  • Yield to vehicles already in the traffic circle and those vehicles entering the circle on your right.
  • Once all vehicles have passed your right hand side, proceed with caution.
  • Note that all vehicles already in the circle have right of way.

TOLL ROADS

Toll roads operate on major routes. Charges vary from R10, 00 per vehicle to R80, 00 per vehicle. Payment can be made either by cash, or by major credit cards.

WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF ACCIDENTS/THEFT?

Contact 4 Seasons Car Rental immediately.
A full report must be made at the nearest Police Station within 24 hours where an accident has occurred and 6 hours in case of theft. When an accident occurs and a third party is involved (regardless of fault), the following information is needed.

Please note that if the information is not accurate or detailed the waivers will be negated.

  • Either a Passport or ID number
  • Mobile or land line number (preferably both)
  • Physical address
  • E-mail address, if possible
  • The location of the police station where the accident was reported with the contact telephone number
  • If insured, the name of the underwriter and policy number

Full and accurate description of the accident with an explanatory sketch
